More Than 300 Receive Degrees at Piedmont University Spring Commencement

On Friday, May 9, in two ceremonies, Piedmont University conferred undergraduate degrees to more than 205 students, including 148 first-generation students, and 164 graduate students, including master's, EdS, and doctorate degrees. The ceremonies were held at the Johnny Mize Athletic Center on the Demorest campus.

More Than 145 Receive Degrees at Piedmont University Fall Commencement

On Friday, Dec. 13, Piedmont conferred degrees to 52 undergradate students, including 24 first-generation students, and to 93 graduate students, including master's, EdS, and doctorate degrees. The ceremony was held at the Johnny Mize Athletic Center on the Demorest campus. Professor Mark Evans, College of Education, and the 2024 Vulcan Teaching Excellence Award winner, was the guest speaker.

Piedmont University Celebrates Alumni Day 2025 with Campus Events and Honoree Recognition

Alumni Day 2025 brought energy, pride, and celebration to Piedmont University's Demorest campus as graduates returned for a full day of events-and to recognize some of Piedmont's most distinguished alumni. From a morning Alumni Association breakfast and wetlands walk to basketball games and a Chamber Singers reunion, the schedule reflected Piedmont's vibrant campus spirit. The highlight of the day, however, was the honoring of the 2025 Alumni Award recipients-an accomplished group that includes a professional baseball player and a former teacher who helped name the space shuttle Endeavour.

Piedmont University Chamber Ensembles Performs Spring Concert

The Piedmont University Chamber Ensembles Spring concert is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. on April 17 in the university chapel. Styles represented include classical and slow blues, swing, mambo, and bossa nova. The performance will feature music for both piano ensemble and jazz ensemble by Gabriel Faure, Maurice Ravel, Sergei Rachmaninoff, Duke Ellington, Neal Hefti, Louis Prima, Moises Simons, and Chris Sharp.

More than two dozen Piedmont University students are working together to bring 9 to 5: The Musical to the stage for performances Feb. 13-16. With music written by Dolly Parton, the musical is based on the 1980s movie and takes a comedic look at the 1970s workplace.

Piedmont Students Offer Free Help with Income Tax Returns

For the second year, Piedmont University students are participating in an accounting course this semester that will help community members in Habersham and Banks counties with federal and state income tax preparation at no cost to them. This course is part of the Internal Revenue Service's Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program.

Sixteen Piedmont Univerity students were inducted into the R.H. Daniel School of Nursing Honor Society on Wednesday, Feb. 19, in the auditorium of Stewart Hall. Students selected to be inducted into the Honor Society are in the top 15 percent of their class.

Piedmont University Media Students Bring Home 15 Pinnacle Awards

Piedmont students involved in Roar Student Media won 15 Pinnacle Awards at the National College Media Conference, held Oct. 30-Nov. 2 in New Orleans. Competing in the Division III classification, which includes colleges and universities with less than 5,000 students, Piedmont students earned a record five first-place Pinnacle Awards, the highest award in college media.

Lions Claim 2023 CCS Men's Cross Country Title

The Piedmont men's cross country team laid claim to the 2023 CCS Championship behind sophomore Layton Bradford's second-place finish. In addition to Bradford, the Lions claimed five of the top 10 spots in the event. Head Coach Jamie Jimison also won CCS Coach of the Year for his work with the men's program.

Jaycie Ponce Co-Authors Study Accepted to International Academic Journal

Piedmont University's Communication Sciences and Disorders program continues to make a name for itself, this time with a study to be published in The Cleft-Palate Craniofacial Journal, a peer-reviewed, interdisciplinary, international publication. Piedmont student Jaycie Ponce co-authored the article with Communication and Disorders Program Director Dr. Monica Bellon Harn and Rebecca Hancock, a speech-language pathologist who works for Union County Schools.

The 4th Annual Piedmont Symposium showcased the undergraduate research and creative inquiry projects of 389 students on April 6. The day-long event provides research opportunities for students. Their findings were presented across the Demorest and Athens campuses through oral and poster presentations.
